MY STORY |  Strength, Faith and Purpose

In 2020, Shirley H. Scarborough faced profound loss when her daughter, Francesca, and unborn grandchild were tragically taken from her. Turning her pain into purpose, she founded Cry Loud, Spare Not, Speak Up, Inc., a nonprofit empowering women affected by domestic violence and abuse through education, advocacy, and support.

Near Francesca’s anniversary, Shirley hosts the “I Am Enough, I Know My Worth” conference, inspiring women and girls to embrace self-esteem and resilience.

Shirley’s dedication has been recognized in the Richmond Free Press, CBS6, and Bold Journey Magazine. In 2024, she was honored as a Hometown Hero for her commitment to faith, family, and community.

Her journey is a beacon of hope, proving that healing, purpose, and empowerment are possible even in adversity.

Follow Shirley’s journey and join the movement to break the silence. Together, we can uplift, empower, and inspire.

book excerpts

As you read Shattered But Not Destroyed, you will gain an intimate glimpse into the heart and mind of my beloved daughter, Francesca. Francesca loved deeply, but her journal entries reveal the doubts and struggles she faced. She gave love freely but did not always receive the same in return. At times, she clung to hope even in the face of uncertainty. As mothers, we may not always know the silent battles our children fight. After her passing, reading Francesca’s journals allowed me to truly understand her pain and strength. I urge parents to have deep, honest conversations with their children—to be their safe place in difficult times. By sharing parts of her journal, my hope is to help another grieving parent find the strength to forgive, knowing that healing is a journey that requires faith and divine guidance. To the young woman who may see herself in Francesca’s story—I pray you find the courage to walk away before it’s too late. You are worthy of love that lifts you up, not one that breaks you down. Your life is precious, and your future is bright.

Shattered But Not Destroyed is one of the most raw and heartfelt stories I’ve read. The author takes you on deep dive into her pain after losing her daughter to domestic violence. You can feel every ounce of her shattered heart, but what makes this book so powerful is that it’s not just about grief—it’s about resilience, faith, hope and the journey toward healing and forgiveness.

What I love most about this book is the honesty in her story…her emotions…you feel like you’re right there in the scene of the story going through it with her. If you or someone you know has ever struggled with grief, trauma, abuse, letting go of pain, or even feeling like you’re not enough this book will speak to your soul. It’s not just a book—it’s an experience that stays with you long after you turn the last page.
